So I picked up a Triple K holster from Cabelas in the correct size but when I put my 586 Classic (586-8) in it I am unable to snap the thumb break together around the hammer.

Does anyone know if the hammer is larger on the new 586's? I planned on returning this holster after ordering a Bianchi 5BH(L?) but if the thumb snap on that wont fit either than Im not sure.

Any experience with this guys? Would having it unsnapped impact laws regarding open carry?

Thanks

P.S. I am loving this 586!

Many thumb-snap holsters are pretty tough to snap when they are new. When you work with them a little, you can usually get them to snap shut. My usual drill is to leave the gun in them while snapped shut as much as I can to help speed-up the wearing-in (stretching) process.

You might call the manufacturer and make sure they made the holster to fit guns with both standard and target hammers.

Its not a matter of tight fit, its that its physically impossible for it to snap together, they dont line up. Impossible for it to snap shut and stretch. I was just wondering if the hammer was any larger meaning it would be a waste to buy the Bianchi. I'll take a picture and send an email to Triple K

I have several Bianchi 5HBL holsters and they all fit the intended revolvers but I had to get a replacement for the one I have for my 2-1/2" 66-4 as I could not get the thumb break snapped without a real struggle on the first one. The replacement fits fine.

BUT those holsters, as well as most with a thumb break, will not fit S&W revolvers with target hammers and I was not able to find a holster maker who offers one that does unless the frame size is one that comes with the larger hammer spur like most 629s and such.

For my 686s with target triggers and hammers, I went with Lobo Gun Leather's Tom Threepersons-style holster with a safety strap (a photo of my 686-3 is below) .

With a strap, hammer size is not a concern and he uses a really smooth leather for the lining so blue wear or stainless "polishing" should not happen.

But in your case, it sure looks like the holster is made incorrectly.
