586 Classic built on the N frame?????

I think you all missed it. The owner said it was a 4" 586 in nickel, and it was an N frame. I think he took the grips off and saw an N stamped on the frame and assumed it was an N frame. Perhaps Garry should have asked that question in his response. I may be wrong, but that's my official guess.

Garry James is indeed a very knowledgeable gun guy, but in my years of reading his articles, he has mainly written about older military firearms. I trust him to know about the firearms of say the Boer War, etc., but modern firearms aren't his forte. IMHO, of course.

Ah, the "N" stamped on the frame may well be the most plausible explanation for the fore mentioned confusion about frame size. either way, it looks like we all agree that the frame size is in fact "L". Thank you all. I just wasn't sure if I missed something along the way.

Well, the error is easily made by the writer, the editor, the owner, etc. usually the gun magazines will print retractions and corrections for such matters.

For a novice in re S&W products it's even worse. J frame is just a letter. K frame is just a letter. N frame is just a letter. Even X frame is just a letter. But L frame is different - L frame means large, largest even. Easy mistake to make.

As opposed to the NCIS writers who identified a revolver on last week's show as a "Model 10 World War 2 Victory Model". Made me cringe. Similarly, on Hawaii 5-O last week they identified a Beretta incorrectly but I forget what the error was, or what I thought it was. Heck, maybe I was wrong. I have exes that insist I've been wrong in the past.....

Add John Barsness to the knowledgable stable. He also sell to Handloader, Rifle, and Hunting (all Wolf Publishing) as well as others.

My last subscription was to those named magazines. I dropped them, not for shoddy information, but because they made me want a lot of new toys, that I really did not need. I have accumulated a lot of stuff and in my opinion, I am outfitted to hunt anything short of elephant perhaps, and I'm not mad at elephants.

I have all the bases covered (many multiple times) from .22 LR to 9.3X62 rifles, from .22 through .44 and 45 handguns, and from .410 bore through 12 gauge shotguns. The 28 gauge that I hope to pick up this week fills the gap. I do not need anymore guns. But then, what does need have to do with anything?

I quit them all. Most of writers now are wanna-bs. They are not
Skeeter, Elmer, Jordan or any of the other guys that actually
had hands on with what they wrote about. They are always trying
to interject themselves into the past. Dressing like Cowboys and
mercs and running out to a range doesn't make them experts.
Also, I am tired of magazines full of plastic pistols and black
rifles.
