Had a friend sell a gun a couple of months ago on GB.

Kind of rare, never fired but some nicks in the barrel.

He told me if there were no nicks it might go as high as $3500 but was hoping for $2500.

Two guys got into a war and it ended up going for $4950.00

Not sure about them but it made me happy. :D

Not sure why you thought it necessary to break the link and spell out "dot". That only makes it difficult for members to access the information.

If a specific website is blocked by our filter, don't post it at all. In this case, the link is acceptable. Our rules specifically allow links to completed listings. I repaired the link for you.

As to your question, Woodlawn Boys handle a lot of high end guns and has an established reputation. The gun is in pristine condition with just a very light turn line and at least two people wanted it enough to bid that high. Some buyers want the best, don't trust their ability to spot problems and would rather pay more and deal with a trusted seller. The money is inconsequential to them.

WOW. My 586 no-dash looks almost as nice. I think my grips are a little lighter - they are in a drawer with pachmayrs on the gun. Only paid $175 for this back in the early 90's but gun only - no box.

Sometimes I go and look at the buyer's feedback to see what other kinds of thing they buy and the prices they paid. The winner of this auction recently paid $2700 and change for a NIB 686....

Wonder if he's a forum member.

586 357Mag 6"Bbl

Excellent Revolver. By inspecting the Pictures,
it is in Pristine Condition. Looking at the Labels
couldn't figure out the Manufacture Date. I
wonder what year it was made?

I did notice the Screw for taking off the Yoke is
bergered up. Also the Barrel looks to be canted.
With it never being shot the Rear Sight is centered.

I like it. Who ever bought it I hope it will be
shot, not to be stowed away in a Safe.

Can't imagine what it would have gone for if
it was a 4" Barrel.

I had one in the late '80s. It was a Shooter.
I was careful with it and kept it wiped with oil
so it wouldn't rust.

Congratulations who ever bought it.

Good points and insights one and all !

(I was not sure of the rules, so I erred on the side of caution regarding the link-thanks moderator)

I was hoping to discover from some member whether this sample had some 'hidden' intrinsic valuable aspect. Apparently not. I think it is a 1983 vintage.
Makes me wonder whether there is an over seas market that certain buyers resell to ?? Deep pocket overseas buyers !
Anyway, as auctions go, WOW !

I paid $750 for a 586-1 here in CA in 2013. Not that I want to but, do you think I can double my money? I guess a lot of the pre-lock Smith revolvers are getting harder to find these days so it's a sellers market.

on 10-5 at the melbourne gun show i bought a 586-1 for & 435, 4 inch. it has a 686 crane on it, the gunsmith said it was all he could find. i bought a blue crane later that day for 20 bucks. it is in good cond over all...

I have a AAA 6 inch 586 bought in 1981 for use in the NRA Police Distinguished Matches. I eventually gained my Distinguished Badge with this gun, thus never gave a thought to now selling it. But wow, may have to think about this. (My appetite for English side by sides keeps me broke.) Except for a turn line, my 586 is in similar condition.

I noticed chatter marks on the right side, toward bottom of the grip. I also was unimpressed by the lack of nice book matching on the bottom of the grip.

it wasn't perfect; but awfully nice.
One of my favorites Smiths. I've got the 8 3/8" barrel.

Well, the "boys" have a new one up. #46 first run with box. This sample is for sure ASNIB. Popcorn is ready for the final show down.

A nickel version, first run, is also on the block.:p

Yep. There're a couple of "regulars" at Woodlawn Boys where cost is no object. When they start bidding, I just sit and watch.
