I have a S&W 586 in SS. I was under the impression that the SS was a 686. I'm sure that it is not nickel. Am I wrong in my thinking? The serial number is AAE2662. Thanks for your help. John
Is it possible that it is a 586 with a commercial aftermarket finish such as Armaloy? Some guns with that finish are often mistaken for a stainless model.
I have a 586 with same AAE prefix that has a "Nitex" hard chrome finish that looks like stainless steel. I bought it from a gun shop in Massachusetts circa 1982 as "pre-owned - unfired". I don't know anything more than that about it. Odd that it has the same prefix....
