The trigger on my 5903 is horrible compared to my new (to me) Sig 226. Can any competent smith do something with it or should I find one that specializes in S&Ws? I'd like to shorten, lighten and have a quicker reset. Is this possible?

Unless something is worn out it should have a fairly short reset to start with. Replacing the mainspring with a lighter 17-18# spring will lighten the trigger pull, there is a trigger return spring that can also be lighten to some extent. Some times the trigger "ears" get worn and increase the length of the trigger pull, a new trigger may shorten the overall pull but for the most part with TDA triggers what-you-have is what-you-get.

Call S&W and see what they offer to you. If it is a warranty situation you have a lifetime warranty as it is a 3rd Gen. gun. The performance center is another option. Keep in mind that this was never designed to be a target gun, if that is what you are truly after then a 952 is what you want. However, do NOT ever handle or fire one!! You will be spoiled forever.......they are that good!

Thanks for the replies. Just did a side by side..the Sig travel is a little shorter and lighter. But the reset on the 5903 is quicker. So I think a lighter spring and be happy with it.
@growr, Can't aford a 952, but they sure look nice. I found an old thread on here with pics.
Thanks for the input handgunner. Be Safe!
