Friend of mine has a 5906 with the winged three dot night sights that have long lost their luster. He is looking into having them either recharged or replaced, but he wanted to look into the history of these sights and their origin of mfg. Are these S&W produced sights, or are they made by a third party for S&W to install?

Any info is appreciated.

The basic answer is that they are probably either Trijicon or Meprolight sights. Meprolight sights cannot be re-lamped. Trijicon will re-lamp their sights (or factory S&W sights with Trijicon tubes) for $57. It would appear that both Trijicon and Meprolight have discontinued their adjustable sight models for the 5906.

Thanks for the heads up. I have a 6906 that I just picked up and the sights are dead. Was thinking of going with a fiber optic set up if I could find them.

Trijicon used the 6906 in their advertising some time ago.

I sent in 4 sets to Trijicon last year and got them relamped. They basically refurbed them to look like new. Writing and all. Since the guns are basically irreplaceable, I decided to just ship sights instead of the entire slide. However, they are fine if you ship the whole slide to them.

Fiber optics are hard to find for these. Seems like EGW was about the only one that has fiber optics maybe?? I would prefer Tru-Glo TFO sights, but they don't make them for the 3rd Gens.
