Were there two type of 5906 grips, one with an arch similar to a 1911A1 and one that is flatter ? I am very new to third gens.

Also will the adjustable rear sight with the ears interchange with the Novak style fixed sight ?

Yes there is a straight grip that will fit the 5906. It wasn't the original grip, the original had the arch. I believe the straight grip debuted on the 4006 but will fit the 5906 (same frame).

No, the sights aren't interchangeable, the machining for the bases are very different. There are adjustable sights that will fit the Novak dovetail cut.

In my experience the straight backs are harder to find. I prefer them over the curved back and think it makes my smiths look sexier.

Not trying to hijack the thread. Are wood grips available for a 5906 or 6906?

Hogue makes wood stocks for the 3rd generation S&W pistols, but they are not cheap. As for arched vs straight factory stocks, it's a personal thing, some people prefer one over the other.
