Finally replaced the 5906 I sold 10 years 2 month's and 2 days ago. Not like I missed it much..;)

The truth is that I gave up hope finding another one @ a good price. I thought for sure I would have to settle for a beat up model.

My thought went back to a pawn shop I visited a few months back and remembered them having a 410, all black.

So I called to see if they had any all metal S&W Semi's in. He fumbled with the phone for a minute and said yes we have a stainless one. I asked him the model as my heart ticked up a notch, "he said let me see, looks like a 5906".

Blood pumped and palms sweated, "how much" he said "looks like $379" Even more exited "I said okay I will swing in and take a look at it and hung up".

Couldn't wait to get there, kept having to slow down from speeding a little. I just had to see it. Get there and this is what they had>>>>

This baby is in great shape and man was I lucky. Anyway it came with only on magazine and a plastic bag...not even a $7 case. :(

I have looked and the only mags I have found Below $65+ are the MecGar Mags. They are $29 + shipping.

Anyone have any experience with these? Quality? Or know where to get some decent Mags at a reasonable price. As much as I have searched I keep coming up short. So I would give you guys a shout and see if you had an inside on this.

I am happy having something I wish I never sold back in my life, can't wait to get a Mag or 2 and get to the range. :D

MecGar makes many factory magazines (Sig comes to mind) and they are a tremendous product. I have 3 for my 5906 and not only do they function very well but offer an extra two rounds over the factory S&W mags.

Nice 5906! I am running into the same dilemma for the 5906 with one 14 round mag I purchased last week. I was fortunate that the store I purchased mine at had one extra 14 rounder to sell. I just picked up Mec-gar 17 rounder a couple days ago. The fit and finish is excellent, and I am happy with it.

Nice 5906. Have you posted an ad in the Want To Buy section? I bought five fifteen round magazines from a another member of the Forum, & he gave me a really nice deal.

MecGarr mags are OEM for some companies and aftermarket for others but they do make a good product

I have a mix of OEM and Mec Gar magazines for my 5904 and 5906. Side by side you won't be able to tell the difference except for the markings. I'm convinced that Mec Gar is the OEM manufacturer for S&W.

Magazines do show up from time to time in the classifieds here, but you have to be quick because they don't last long. People with no life (like me) spend too much time perched on their computers looking for magazine bargains!

That's a nice 5906 you got and at a very good price from what I've seen. About a year ago I was in a LGS with a friend of mine. He was buying a S&W 442 and I was just looking at the used gun section to see what was there. They had a stack of 5906 police trade ins which were in the expected condition. They also had a pristine 5904, which I grabbed for about what you paid for you 5906. I'd say you got a really good deal.

I bought a couple of 3913TSW magazines from Climags.com. They carry both new and used magazines.

I've bought magazines from this vendor before with great results.

Thanks just ordered some! :)
Thanks guys for all the help and responses.

I was thinking about refinishing it. Bead blast with glass beads probably 100-12- grit for the satin finish.

I have done it before but I need to be sure on the grit. Thinking 40-50 PSI should do it. Just some ever so slight surface scratches.

Then I got to thinking, maybe when I get a replacement secondary carry. Really don't want to carry this thing when I am done refinishing.;)

Hearing all the similar 2nd gen and 3rd gen models brings back a lot of memories. Thanks again guys.:)
