5906 TSW

All, I have an opportunity to purchase a 5906TSW that the seller says had only one magazine shot through the gun. I'm waiting on pictures and if it's the real deal I feel the price he's asking is fair. He said he would let it go for $600.....I understand condition is everything...thoughts?

Yeah, $600 is a bit high. I would say $500 tops. I'd want to pay more like $450 to be able to consider it a good deal.

But condition is everything. A ton of used cop ones sold for $399 BIN price on GB recently. That kinda sets the price floor. Better condition goes up from there. An expensive dealer near me had one in top condition (near flawless) for $500, but I didn't go for it. He eventually sold it so I assume he got his price.

An unfired "new-in-box-with-everything" could fetch $600 or even more, but you might have to go to GB or wait a while until the right buyer shows up.

Got the itch for a 2018 Mustang GT.

Is this the 5906TSW with the integral rail? If so, I'd pay the $600 because only about 100 were made.

So... it seems like the 5906TSW's have a thicker barrel than the regular 5906's. Why is that? Just for added durability or stability while shooting?

I'm far from knowing everything about 5906 TSW's.
I believe the barrel has a extra locking lug, and the frame & slide are milled from the same block of SS and are kept together thru the whole assembly process.
Fitting of slide & frame is tighter.

5906TSWs are built on the 4006TSW slide and frame.

There was nothing wrong with the standard 5906, I think S&W combined them just for commonality and ease of manufacture.

If the gun truly has had only 1 mag through it and is in LNIB condition with the original box & docs, I could see $600 being at the high end of a fair price. It would be hard to tell on a steel framed 9mm like this exactly how many rounds have been through it based on condition alone, especially with an online sale. If it was me I'd maybe offer something in the low $500's and hope to settle around $550.

Not even one 100 rounds... just one magazine full per the OP... likely 10 rounds since it was a ban period gun or possibly 15-rounds if it was a LEO gun. Either way, that barely qualifies as "tested for function only" so that's about as close to ANIB as most of us will ever see.

Makes sense. That's kinda what I was thinking. I like the look of that big, beefy barrel though. There was a 5946TSW in my LGS for quite a while. I'm not a big fan of DAO... but that gun had about the slickest DA pull I've experienced. And I noticed how much thicker the barrel was than a standard 59XX.

Cal Hwy Patrol sure take good care of there guns.
It is mint.
