Anyone want to give me a reason to purchase one of these ,Ive seen them for years , my department always used Rugers (I hate ruger autos, love there revolvers), knew many had the model 39 and 59 series , always admired them, but not having owned one is a different story!

I have an original Mod. 59 with the alloy (aluminized) frame. It's totally reliable and very accurate. It's also one of my most accurate pistols with light recoil.

1. Novak sights
2. Dehorned pistol
3. Carry with safety on, or safety off in DA mode (like a SIG)
4. Police agency workhorse, from the Model 59 to when they stopped production of the 5900 series, excellent police track record
5. You can get used, excellent condition pieces for under $500. A brand new pistol with the features of a late 5906 would be very expensive today if current production
7. S&W made several variations of the pistol, 5900 series, so what you want is out there

I LOVE my 5906. It was my first cartridge-firing handgun, after a few years of collecting black powders. In the years since I have bought and sold many handguns, but this is one that i would NEVER consider selling EVER. I've shot many other 9mms, but this one is the comfiest shootin' and most reliable 9mm I've had experience with. Yes they are heavier than the glocks and rugers, but that means they have a more manageable recoil. I've put at least 3000 rounds through mine without any work besides normal cleaning. Also, the best 9 I've ever shot with +p and +p+. Handles 'em like the champ that it is. Again, very reliable, very comfortable, what more can I say!? Oh yeah, the 33 round mag in the photo is fun, but expensive to fill, and silly. I have plenty of 15 and 17 round mags for it

My S&W 5906 is totally reliable with a wide variety of bullet shapos and weights. Built like the proverbial tankl with a good trigger. On the minus side it's designed for close-up work and accuracy is nothing to crow about beyond 50 ft. Up to 10 yards it provides nice tight 10 shot groups.

I've owned several 5906's and also convinced my brother to buy one of his own. Also I own a few other, similar 3rd generation S&W's.
Once you own a 5906, you'll see why they have almost a cult-like following.
And if you ever shoot a Performance Center version, or a PC "Shorty 40", you will be ruined for most other handguns!
Besides a short list of quality 1911's, the only other guns that I like even close to the 5906 and variants are a couple of Sigs and the Browning Hi-Power. Beretta 92's and M9's aren't too bad either. But the S&W 5906, 4006, 4506, and 1006, trump them all I think.
I just came from the range- I ended up near there by accident while running my daughter to the only Sprint Repair Center nearby that was open... (that's a whole 'nother story!). Anyway, I realized we were close and asked her if she wanted to stop by and shoot. I didn't happen to have any of my .22's or my 5906's, but was carrying my S&W 4014 in .40 S&W of course. I rented her a Browning Buckmark (a brand new one- very sweet! I have a much older one) and she proceeded to shoot about 100 rounds and shot very well for a 14 year old!
And I shot 50 rounds of Federal range ammo and just continue to be amazed at what a great shooting little compact pistol it is, and at the tights groups I was getting.
I'm not a snob and try to find something to like in most quality pistols. But the 5906 is just one of the best shooting, rock solid, iconic pistols.
They remind me of some kind of combination of a Ford F150 or a BMW 5 series sedan. Dependable, rock solid, and each time you use one it seems more enjoyable than ever before.

Sweet gun. Love mine. It took me a while to find a decent one with a square trigger guard, a lot of people don't like it, but I personally think it ups the bad *** factor of the piece.
It's a heavy gun... this is the type of hand gun that gives size queens like nutnfancy nightmares.
This gun will snap your cat's spine if you drop it on him (ask my cat "Mr. Hobblesworth"), but I've always loved the feel and weight of an all steel gun and of course it is very accurate as stated before.

My old 5906, I miss it.
I like the sights on yours, mine has the same. I'll never 'miss' mine because I inherited it, and it was my first cartridge-firing handgun (collected black powders up until then), I could never ever even consider selling it, also because it's such a nice shooter!
