5906 ?

Some 5906's have a squared or round trigger guard, is one earlier than the other, or were they spread out during production? terry

I am pretty sure they started out with the squared trigger guards. I have an AIPXXX 5906 and it's got a squared one. I l also have an early production 3906 (pre-Novak sights) and it has a squared one.

I know the square trigger guard was first, then the round. I have a 5904 with a square trigger guard I bought used in '91 or '92. I'm physically looking at a 1992 S&W booklet "Smith & Wesson Handguns and Accessories" - all autos pictured in this catalog have the round trigger guards. Square trigger guards are at least pre-1992. (If that helps.)

Correct, of course. The (early) 3rd Gen squares were a modified carryover of the (late) 2nd Gen squares.

1st Gens were round... early 2nd Gens were still round... late 2nd Gens were square... early 3rd Gens were funky square... and later 3rd Gens were back to round.

Yes, I left out the minor variations. Forgive me.

I'd send it back to S&W, and if they give up on it, take a M&P as a replacement, and sell the M&P as NIB. Worth more than a very questionable 5906.
