5906tsw vs. Regular 5906

My Smiths are a 5906 for the range and fun (Sig .45 250 at my bedside), 6906 I sometimes carry, a 39-2 'cause ya gotta have at least one, a 639 to have a shiny one, 3 Shields for carry (.380, 9 and .45) and 2 M&Ps one in 9c and the other .45c and there's a 4513tsw on the way to join my 4566tsw.

I'm good on S&W pistols for now. I think. Maybe. Unless I find a nice deal on a 745.

Personally, I think your collection probably ought to include a 3913, or a 3913TSW, myself. ;)

I picked up a 5906TSW a short time ago and do like it better than the 5906 I owned years ago but it's difficult to express why. It is still a brick - the main complaint I had for the 5906. My 915 has always felt much better in that respect. I never liked the billboard before but it has grown on me. Mine came without the rail so no issues there. It has Novak adjustable night sights that still glow. I got it for right around $400 because it was broken - replacement of the plastic disconnector (which came out in 3 pieces) and sear spring and it was back in business. I think it's a great gun for what I have in it but I might not feel the same if I paid much more.

I need to weigh mine loaded against the 645 loaded. I think their loaded weight is about the same. I like how the 5906TSW shoots, that may be because it is a brick :-)

I have both , a 4&5in DPA 5906 , both of which are NIB . They only made 19 of the 5in , and something like 450 of the 4in . If you can find one for $1500 you better jump on it .

I too have both , a 5906 and 5906TSW . I don't shoot a lot of 9mm , but when I do I prefer the TSW . There's something about it that enables me to shoot it better . But really , either one is a fine piece of S&W craftsmanship .

I'm a single stack kinda guy, but if I did want a double stacker to carry and shoot, my first choice would be a 659, and my second, mostly for the lighter weight, would be a 915.

As for the plastic internal parts question, that disconnector is so easily replaced with a steel one, I'd never miss a beat. Likewise the recoil spring guide would be changed out ASAP. I kinda like the plastic cup on the mainspring… it may even smooth up the action a little, and it probably doesn't get enough stress to damage it, IMHO.

Of course the preceding is JMHO, and probably worth what you paid for it… choosing a firearm is a personal task!

4586TSW with traditional roll marked slide, melonite treatment and Trijicon night sights.

Barrel, slide and frame are as tight as can be and still function.
