Aside from the Model 28, were any N frames with 6" barrels routinely sold with magnas installed from the factory? I remember an old edition of Gun Digest, or a similar publication, and it had drawings of N frame guns rather than photos. As I recall, it showed one or more 6-inchers with magnas and I wonder now whether they were sold that way -- with target grips being an optional accessory that eventually became standard.

Thanks!

Last Friday, I purchased, at a yard sale, a 27-2 that appears to be new/unfired in the box.
It wears service stocks. The box label indicates the stocks as "S".
SCSW confirms this to, in fact, to be the case.
In addition, my 28-2 was likewise issued with service stocks.

Model 20's, 21's, 22's, 23's, 24's (and their pre-model designation) in "standard" configuration shipped with Magnas. Early 25's and 26's did too.

Later, 58's and 520's shipped with "Modified Magnas" which resemble Magnas, but have rounded lower edges.

I have a pair of 1950 44 Target Models that shipped with 6.5" tubes and Magnas.

I also have a 6.5" 357 from 1956 that came with Magnas.

Up until 1974 the 27s came with Magnas.

The 38/44 Outdoorsman and 6.5" Heavy Duty would ship with Magnas.

I'm sure I am forgetting some.

Thanks Drew. I've seen those rounded magnas on smaller guns, but didn't know they were made for N frames too. Sounds like most N frames were sold with targets by the late 70s then.

A 27-2 at a yard sale? That's awesome! I've heard of holster and grip finds, but never anything like that. This must be the loophole they talk so much about. ; )

I asked because I was thinking of mounting some magnas on my 6" nickel 25-5. Magnas look natural on 4" N frames, but I'm somewhat surprised at how not out of place they look on a 6" gun. It seems the heavier the barrel, the cooler they look. Until I get something smaller, the 25 is by default my carry gun for the moment. It disappears under a flannel shirt (I'm on the rainy side of Oregon too) but the Safariland thumbreak creaks more than I remembered. I've been stuffing Glocks in nylon so long, I forgot what a classic rig felt and sounded like.

I carry my 6" mod. 57 more often than you would think. It's not exactly your normal conceled carry gun but hides nicely under an oversized shirt with the tail out. I'm sure i would like it better with magnas but have not yet yet found any.

You sure about that?

Drew: what neighborhood do you live in? and what day of the week do garage sales normally start ther? I hope it is not so far that I need to move...

Quinn, the "Garage Sale" will begin in about 12 years when I pull the plug and slide into retirement. My neighborhood? It's the sticks and not too many folks around... :) We normally like to keep it that way, but I'd make room for a Texas Patriot... Still, not sure you'd like living here in this "purple" state populated by a mix of city dwelling hipsters, graying weirdo hippie-leftovers, Massachusetts lawyers and liberal activist politicians surrounded by a sea of country folk. :)
