Congrats on landing that. They're so hard to find and most owners are not willing to sell them. Is it a dash 1 or 2?? Please post some pics.
I traded a 3" CS-1 (w. box) to get a 3 7/8" 610-2. No regrets. Still trying to get info on how many were produced in this configuration.

Finally found an as new in box pre-lock 610 for my collection. 3 7/8" unfluted cylinder.
Thank you David.
Had to sell my 3" years ago so feel a little better now.

CONGRATULATIONS, lockandload. DESPITE THE FACT THAT YOU HAVEN'T POSTED FREQUENTLY, YOU HAVE BEEN A FORUM MEMBER FOR YEARS......

AS A RESULT, I FEEL THAT I MUST GIVE YOU A FRIENDLY REPRIMAND FOR NOT POSTING PICS OF YOUR INTERESTING NEW REVOLVER.....

YOU KNOW HOW MUCH WE LOVE OUR GUN PORN ! ! !

THAT IS INDEED A BEAUTY, lockandload ! ! ! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE PICS. YOUR RAPID RESPONSE, HAS ENABLED THIS OLD GUN PORN ADDICT TO GET SOME SLEEP TONIGHT......

My brother bought one when they first came out. Don't know if he ever shot it, but bought it knowing it would be special. Also got a Delta Elite Colt too. Sounds like he made a good revolver purchase, it was the only one he has.

CAN THE MODEL 610 BE USED WITHOUT MOON CLIPS, FOR EITHER 10MM, OR .40 S&W ? ? ?

I WOULD PREFER THAT METHOD, ON THE TARGET RANGE.....

Nice!! Like the 10mm round. Got the 45acp version myself since I'm mainly target/plinker...not for hunting. Nice score!

Theoretically, yes for 10mm. No for .40, the shorter case would not reach the "shoulder" in the chamber as the 10mm would.

That said, even with the 10mm, you'd be dependent on the depth of the chamber vs the length of the case, which may provide reliable ignition, or may not. I've always found moon clips to be the most reliable of course. For range use, I also sometimes use Rimz poly clips, they provide reliable ignition, and are easy on and off. You only need a couple. Only takes a few seconds to load and unload the Rimz clips.

By design, NO

Smith and Wesson revolvers designed to shoot auto loading cartridges, head space on the moon clip and not case mouth.

This is why you can shoot all the shorter ammunition in the revolver. Like shooting 9MM or 380ACP from one of the 38SUPER Model 627s

Now perhaps 95% of the time, the 10MM Auto Case will rest on the edge of the chamber throat of a modern Smith and Wesson revolver and fire. This is not a design feature of the revolver, it is just happenstance

I rechamber all of my 610/310 revolvers for the 10MM Magnum cartridge. That allows me to chamber and shoot 10MM Magnum, 10MM Auto and 40S&W.

HI LOU, THANKS FOR YOUR SPEEDY REPLY. I FULLY UNDERSTAND YOUR EXPLANATION, AND I WOULD HAVE NO PROBLEM WHATSOEVER, USING RIMZ. I FIND THAT I CAN LOAD AND UNLOAD THEM IN .45ACP, WITH MY FINGERS ALONE, WITHOUT THE USE OF TOOLS.....

I HAVE SHOT .40 S&W OUT OF A GLOCK (NOT MY BAG--I'M A REVO MAN). I HAVE NEVER SHOT 10MM, BUT IIRC, THE FBI TRIED TO ADOPT ITS USE, BUT HAD TO DROP THAT PLAN. THEY ALLEGEDLY FOUND THAT THEIR RECRUITS WERE HAVING TROUBLE HANDLING THE RECOIL. I ASSUME THAT THEY WERE SHOOTING SEMI-AUTOS.....

WITH THAT IN MIND, I CAN'T EVEN IMAGINE, WHAT THAT QUITE FORMIDABLE LOOKING 10MM MAGNUM ROUND, MIGHT FEEL LIKE, WHEN SHOT OUT OF A REVOLVER.....

Joe,
The recruits were not the problem. I won't go into that since there are many threads here on the Forum that cover it.

The FBI DID adopt the full power, 190 grain, 10MM Auto cartridge for many of it's Elite units. This is both in pistol and SMGs. I fell in love when the MP5/10s arrived in the Miami Office.

Mine is pictured with a Full auto fire control group in place of the burst fire group that the FBI adopted

These are still in service with Federal Law Enforcement to this day. They are just now seeking RFPs for replacement of the aging HKs.

The 10MM Magnum cartridge is the ballistic equivalent of the 41 Magnum. A 6 1/2" Model 610 is quite pleasant to shoot in that chambering

It is quite a handfull in the 2 1/2" Scandium framed Model 310NG
