I saw a nib 617-2 with stainless 10 shot cylinder, and pre mim hammer/trigger with rubber grips. I want one but the price seems high. $1100. I have a couple k 22's and wanted the 617 for some time now, dont like the alloy cylinder look or feel and not buying one with the lock. I know these are scarce and worth a premium over the 6 shot or alloy version.

I wouldn't say they have a premium over a 10 shot, I didn't want the 10 shot and specifically hunted down a 6 shot version so it clocked similarly to my 686.

What is the barrel length?

Last year I bought a 617 no dash, 6 shot 6" barrel with factory combat grips for $599 in very nice condition.

For a NIB one with rubber grips I would think around $750-800 would be absolute tops especially if you are going to "ruin" it and shoot it.

The 617 is only ~$700 new so you need to figure out what the lack of the hole is worth.

I have a 617-4 4" 10 shot. If someone offered me $1100.00 for it-much as I like the gun-it would be gone in a heartbeat. $800 would be a real problem for me. $700-I'd keep it.

That is way too much for a 617 of any kind.

I thought the premium was for the 617 no dash 6 shot 4"?
I guess any 617 is hot these days.

Way too much-pure speculation, looking for a sucker. I'll pass on the alloy versions, but I see no premium for the 10 shot stainless over a six shot.In fact,I'd give the six shot a slight premium, and a bit more for a four inch six shot.

if its a -2 with a stainless cylinder and not alloy then my guess is it went back to S&W at some point to replace a defective alloy cylinder.....

$1100 is a sellers price, not a buyers price.Way to much.
This ^ .I go to the same gunshow every 4 months and for the last 2 years the same older gentleman has on his table a nice 686 no dash . He won't budge from the $700.00 price he has on it . You would think that after 2 years of not selling it he'd lower the price .

To each his own but there's no way I'd pay $1100. That's just way overpriced IMO, but it's worth whatever someone with money in hand is willing to pay. How bad do you want it?

Local shop has a used 4" 617 no dash for $1295.00 !!! . Been there going on 2 years .

The 617 is a GREAT revolver--esp the early ones. While that might be a tad much right now, in time the price of a revolver like this NIB will routinely surpass $1100. IF you can even find one. What is the length of the barrel ? ? If it's a 4 or 8 3/8 inch, someone will grab it @ that price. I have a new version 4 inch 617 10 shot with a "PLUG" in the hole (thanks to our friend Bullseye Smith), a set of Ahrends grips, and a Jack Weigand rear sight. You would have to offer me near $900. to pry it outta my hands--it's just that nice....

Its 6" with case colored hammer and trigger I dont have the money for it but if I did buy it would'nt be the first time I over paid. Last year I knowingly paid to much for a real nice 17-2. Anymore I want something "thats not being manufactured anymore" I just pay and dont care about getting beat for $100 or so.

While I don't think 700 is that outlandish for a nice 686,one must realize that some guys work these shows just for an activity,to be in the setting with their cronies, away from the wife, not necessarily to move guns.
