617-2 value needed

I have found a 617-2 , 6" round butt. It has Rubber grips 10-shot and an alloy cylinder. No box or any extras. Asking price is $675.00. Is this a good deal on this model? Thanks

That sounds in line with current prices. I picked up my 617-2 4 years ago slightly used for $650. I have never regretted it. It is my favorite revolver.

I just bought a 6" 617-2, aluminum cylinder, no factory rear sight (it came with an optic mount) a couple of weeks ago. While I paid a little less, I would have paid $675 for it...

I would look for a 617 with the SS cylinder.That one is priced where a full SS should be-I think that the alloy cylinder models should be valued a bit less,50-75 less.

There is nothing wrong with the aluminum cylinder. I have fired thousands of rounds through mine. The only wear is the drag mark on the cylinder from the cylinder stop and that is just finish wear.

The way I understand it, the aluminum cylinder gave way to the stainless because the aluminum finish on the cylinder didn't match very well with the stainless used everywhere else. The subject comes up every once in a while and, as S&W1006 posted, there's nothing wrong with the aluminum cylinder. Others may post in agreement.

That being said, neither 6-inch or 4-inch used 617Ps come up for sale very often and when they do, they sometimes sell for more than new ones if you can find one. If the revolver checks out, the proffered price is less than what I'd expect given the trend indicated in the chart below.

Those trend charts you've made are a great asset. Do you have one for the Model 17 Classic 6-shot (SKU 150477) I saw one at a nearby shop where they were asking $850.
