Hello
I am new to this forum. I just purchased a new 617-6 revolver which has not arrived yet. I want to buy wood grips for it that are open in the back and will show the handle backstrap. My question is did S&W finish the handle backstop which is currently covered by the factory rubber grip? Thanks for any help with this.
Todd

Yes, the backstrap has the same finish as the rest of the revolver. Take a look at Ahrends grips. I especially like the Tactical Finger Groove. There is a seller on Ebay named "gripseller". Terri is excellent to deal with and the pictures displayed are of the actual grips you are purchasing.

Look at Altamont also. My 617 actually has a Hogue Mono grip, to match the 686, but the J-frames wear Altamont finger groove grips in Rosewood. They do nice work.

I just put these on my 617,I originally bought these for a 6 inch 686, I like the wood better on a longer barrel. Excuse the pun. :0 Also the originals. I plan on swapping them back and forth. I'm not sure if I have a preference.

Ahrends are excellent for the 617. The backstrap will look like this in the round to square butt conversion grips.

WELCOME TO THE FORUM. I USE AHRENDS SMOOTH TACTICAL CONVERSION GRIPS ON MY 617. THEY CONVERT THE ROUND BUTT FRAME TO SQUARE BUTT GRIPS. THE BACKSTRAP IS 3/4 EXPOSED …..
