Hey shooters.
Picked up a 617-2 6" 10 shot today. I believe this to be a transitional piece. My understanding is that the vast majority of -2 were an aluminum alloy cylinder. However based on looks and the box and the serial range, which is CCH5xxx, and the MIM trigger, think I found a unicorn. Can you experts confirm this is a stainless cylinder? If it is I think it'll be a rare bird. Essentially a 617-4, a prelock, ALL stainless, 10 round, 6 inch barrel factory gun. For inquiring minds $750. Thanks.

SCSW 4th edition lists product code 100578 as having a 10 round stainless cylinder. There is no mention of production numbers, so I can't speak to its rarity.

I'm sure the experts will stop by soon and provide more detail.

Nice revolver. I love my 4" -1.

Two ways to tell easily! First, if the frame and cylinder are the same color the cylinder is stainless steel. Second, the stainless steel used by S&W is magnetic, see if a magnet sticks to the cylinder it is stainless!

Haha! Success. Magnetic cylinder. I'm really ecstatic. I wanted prelock. 6" with a 10 round stainless. I also feel like a got a greet price for the current market. Gun shop had a ND for $1200 a -1 and -2 for $750 and another -2 for $1100. I think I made the best possible choice. Thanks for keeping the revolver addiction fueled. Onto the next….

I noticed the picture of your box shows "STNLS CYL", my box also shows that.
