I used to have "a few" older 617's back in my collecting days but they have long gone the way of my memory. So I now have the opportunity to buy a 1993 vintage 617, (6", 6 shot, no dash,) This particular gun is in 95% condition and has a Target trigger and Target hammer, (partridge front, black adjustable rear sight.). Lock up is super tight. The "bible" does list the two T features as available but I'm trying to remember how common they were. Any experienced 617 collectors here care to weigh in?
Trying to decide if I "need" to add this/another one to my current 617/17 collection. My current 617's are new producion 10 shot models. Something draws me to this old school version
OTD price is about $600 with no box .

617 no dash

My no dash 617 pictured on top has the target hammer, target trigger and combat grips, I bought it new and it's still like new. Since I got into steel plates and bowling pin shooting it doesn't get used any more. $600 is a good price for one.

Thanks. No combats. It's wearing hogues (or it would be home already.) Just trying to justify a fifth K22 when I don't have enough time to shoot the ones I have.

If memory serves, the 4" version came standard with "combat" hammer and smooth trigger, while the 6" and 8-3/8" versions came equipped with TT and TH. All versions wore combat stocks. Of course, as with all things S&W, there may have been exceptions...

I just purchased a 617 no dash last week with the combat stocks but no box. Was happy to pay $560 + tax! (see my separate earlier thread) Mine has target hammer and trigger. It has a BEV serial prefix and was made in 1989. I have the 1991 catalog and it shows 4 versions were available:
4" .312" smooth combat trigger and .375" standard hammer
6" .312" smooth combat trigger and .375" standard hammer
6" target hammer and trigger
8 3/8" target hammer and trigger

4" was offered only with standard hammer and trigger, 8 3/8" only with target, 6" came both ways.

Here's mine:

Thanks, that catalog info is what I was looking for.
PS. You did REAL good. Beautiful gun. If the gun I was offered had combats or was $100 cheaper, there would be no discussion. Thinking I'll hold off. It's not like I need another anyway.
