I would love to see S&W make a 22 LR 617 with the pro style barrell and brass bead front sight like my 627PC. I know that it would be in a K frame, but I think that the different barrell configuration would make the pistol balance much better than the full underlug style that they have now.

617PC

I'm the happy camper that imported the 617PC back from Germany. I also own two additional 617-6's. A 4" & 6" version. The 617PC has the balance characteristics of the 4" model. It's a 6 shooter and yes it is a tack driver.

S&W did produce a run of 617PC guns. I believe they were only sold in Europe, more specifically Germany. I have seen pictures a ways back, and saw this thread recently. 617 - Brian Enos's Forums... Maku mozo!

As a resident of MA, nothing tees me off more than a gun made right here in my home state, that I can't acquire because it's only shipped to Europe.

Wow! What a great looking gun.

Who made the grips, please (I'm guessing Nill)?

ETA: oops - just noticed from the Enos forum posting that they are Nills.

Grips are Nill. Even though the 617PC was shipped in 1998 the grips are still available from Nill. Catalog P# SW03P. Current price around $230.00.

Back in the Old days....It seemed that every few weeks either RSR, Jovino's or some other large distributor was advertising some special model run that Smith made for them. Some were radical changes, most were fairly subtle.

A plea to one of the distributors to bring out this model...or allow it's sale HERE...could work.

Been around these sort of deals over the years and the issue generally boils down to EVERYone wanting one NOW...but when it's time to put money on the table....all you get are EXCUSES.

I'd buy a 617 PRO type gun or the Euro only model...sans the overpriced NIL's.

Very nice gun. Talk about a rare one. Despite hundred's being produced.

I tried a few Euro sources a few years back to locate one ... NO dice. You did very well.

I've got one of the short run of 617's in 4" without the underlug. A dream to shoot. A SS M-18.

I've always disliked the ultra heavy barrel and underlug. Especially on the 6" guns. The PRO bbl profile would be THE answer for a well balanced 6" gun.
