Does anyone have one and some pics. How many were made? Are all the 4" & 6" non full lug 617's made for Ashland?? Anyone have the product code for these? Were there any other runs of the non-full lug 617's?

Someone I know has a 4" for sale so I'm wondering!! What do the Ashland 617's sell for?? Thanks, Larry

Tyrod, I have always found Crittenden's questions to be pertinent and his views accurate. However, thank you for the humor. As you likely read, SCSW 4 does not mention a premium for the Ashlands. The word "also" - and I could easily be reading too closely - I am interpreting as some of the 4" and 6 " without full lug as Ashlands. In my decades of scouring gun shops and gun shows for used S&W revolvers, I have not seen a 617 sold as an "Ashland" but I learn new here stuff every day. I am also not familiar with Ashland Shooting supplies. All to say, someone who knows will come along.

Hey Larry here are product codes!

4" non full lug Product code #100563 200 made 1991

6" non full lug Product code #100565 116 made 1991

6" non full lug Product code #100567 made 1991

Check page 300 in SCSW 4th Edition

Kernel, haven't seen the gun yet. It's a 617 no dash. No ser. number or product code yet. It would have to be a 6 shot being an early one.

Rick, google the 617 Ashland supply guns and there will be some info there.

Roger, thanks for the product codes. Will get more info tomorrow hopefully. Anyone have any pics. Larry

There's a seller on the interwebs, Fugate Firearms, that I've seen offer some Ashlands from time to time.

Checking their site, there's one for sale with lots of pics.

I have no affiliation with this seller, nothing to gain, yadda yadda... all I offer here is info to pics.

All the best!

Bought my 4" many years back, so my price is very out of date. Saw a NIB 4" go for $1800 on GB or maybe GunsAmerica.... four or five years back.

Did see a 6" gun go for $2300+ maybe 5 years back on GB. I haven't followed them lately.

The backstory on mine.

Back in the late 90's, maybe early 00's, I was perusing the wares in a Georgia gunshop and saw the 4". Wasn't familiar with the non lug version. I went home and researched them, finding they were a limited run for Ashland's. I went back the next Saturday, hoping it was still there and it was. I picked it up as the owner came up to assist me. I asked if he had the box, he said yes. He said he also had the 6" with box. Both NIB! So, I bought them both, 1 week apart. The owner said if you bought 2 guns in one day, you might get a visit from the ATF. So I bought the one and returned the next week to get the other. I owned some property nearby and there is a great BBQ restaurant there also, so it wasn't a bad trip back and forth.

I don't recall how much I paid and probably ought not to say anyway. But from what I remember, I've been offered much more than what I paid. There's a 6" one on an auction site with a buy it now price of $4800. It's been there for several weeks.

Other than what's been mentioned here and what the SCS&W has, i don't know much about them.

Our esteemed poster GF allowed himself to be swindled out of 2 of them over the last few years. The usual motive, a minor profit for a great gun.

A couple recently sold on GB.

$3,890.00 for a four incher, sn #BHP7355, Product Code 100563.

$3,575.00 for the six incher, sn #BEJ3961, Product Code 100565.

Auction ended 4/29/2017.

So, it's that current for at least two of the 316 total combined barrel lengths.

Thanks for the replies so far and the pics of the guns. I'll know by the end of the week what's going on. They are cool looking, almost a hard chrome model 17. Can't believe these are getting such good money. The 22/40's keep going up steady also. It's amazing how things pop up when you don't expect it. Larry

The Ashland 617s are a very interesting variant and are at the top of the K22 resale list.

Basicly its a SS version of the 17-5 and early 17-6 .

Were there any other runs of the non-full lug 617's?

There was one other run of full underlug-less 617s produced - the run of 617 Mountain Guns that Sportsmans Outdoor Superstore had last year. Here's a thread detailing them:

22LR MOUNTAIN GUN!?

AFAIK, they were a one time run that sat in the vault for years before being sent to a distributor. I don't think any of them have been resold yet, but when that does happen, the price will be significant.

IIRC there was another half shroud 617 but it was a Performance Center gun made for German export although atleast 1 has made it back to the homeland.

Perhaps the rarest SS K-22 was the small trial run of SS Model 18's from the early 1970's ( marked as Model 65)....only know of 1 out there.
