Hey guys can anyone tell me the going rate on 617s these days? I stumbled upon a NIB 4" 10 shot 617 for $730 at a gun shop and also a used 4" 10 shot 617 a used one for $580. The NIB seems a bit high from looking on internet sites, but was wondering about the used one. The used one locked up tight, looked brand-new and was a 617-6. Also can anyone tell me if that's the latest model? Sorry if this has been gone over, been awhile since I've visited the forum.

I find the price of firearms depends a lot on where you live and the demand on certian types of firearms.

I bought a 97%, 4", six shot, Round Butt, 617 about three years ago for $325.00. The internet Auctions have driven the price of firearms up in my opinion. Along with the desire for non IL Revolvers.

Rule 303

730 is fine for a new one.Add a transfer fee/shipping to an online buy and it's not so cheap.Plus, many dealers are charging a larger transfer fee for new guns that could have been purchased through them.I don't blame them, and it's good to support the local dealer.

The other day there was a 617 no dash with all the goodies including the original combat grips for $630 shipped on GB and I almost pulled the trigger but didn't because I already have one. Another S&W forum member bought it while my significant other and I were at the movies and I congratulated him but I had came within a whisker of buying it before we left for the show.

Anyway, the 617 is built like a tank and it would take a lifetime of heavy shooting to wear one out so I would buy the used one for $580.

617 price

Stumbled upon a 6 inch LNIB last year for 375.00 out the door. It has the lock but whatever you shoot with it will not be able to tell if it has one or not. Bought a 4 inch first year NIB 3 years ago and gave 630.00 on an auction site and thought I paid too much-but now it seems like a sweet deal. JMHO

I bought a brand new 617 with a 4"inch barrel two weeks ago for $690 out the door price:Dcoobie

You have to answer several questions to determine if the price of a S&W is correct, low or high:

Do you want it?

Do you have the money?

Will you bid higher to get the gun you want?

Now, if I asked this forum about the price I paid for several of my pre-lock S&Ws, the response would be $25 to $300 too much. Several would be described as good deals. My point is: I had the money and I wanted THAT S&W. My savings account was paying 0.05 % (yes 1/20 of 1%) annual interest. I believe I will be ahead of the game in 2 years max and maybe ahead right now.

My only caution statement is buy the best quality you can afford. Accept nothing less and wait for the right gun to come along. As an example: a M29, 4" P&R, TT, TH (gun only) shooter grade used sold for $1050 on GB. Three days later I bought LNIB same gun, with presentation case, and all the goodies for less than $700 delivered to me by my local dealer. Patience is it's own reward.

If in doubt, see question #1.

Fwiw, I paid $645 for NIB not quite a year ago. To be fair that was a great price at the time, achieved by hard shopping.

i bought the 617 TT TH with box that FYIMO mentioned....its my 3rd...or 4th one....starting to lose track.....:)

but, when that gun gets here, i have a standard hammer and trigger 6" 617 no dash with combats that might hit the road.....so if anyone is in the market for one give me a shout....want to give forum members first shot

I picked up a like-new 6-shot 617 with TT, TH, combat grips, original box with all the goodies about 3 weeks ago at a gun-show for $500. I have had several different .22 revolvers and this is absolutely the best one I have ever owned. I like it so much that I dropped it off at my gunsmith today to have it drilled and tapped (just like the new ones so the holes will be hidden by the rear sight) for a scope base. This baby is staying with me forever!!!

ye dont know how lucky ye have it in the states. a price of a new unit is in and around 1800-2000 dollars!!!! oh and thats here in ireland
happy paddys day :D

drilling and tapping a nice piece like that? ouch.

I kind of figured I'd get some kind of response from that. I can still see pretty good but not as well as I used to and as I will be 71 this year and have Parkinson's I want to keep on shooting and enjoying it as long as I can. A little 2X scope helps me do this.

The 617 is an awesome revolver as I stated above and if the 617 no dash would have been a 4 inch it would have been gone as soon as I saw it. I love shooting S&W 22 revolvers and besides the 6 inch 617 no dash have I also have a 6 inch K22, a 8 3/8 inch 17-4, and two 4 inch Model 18's.

they are great guns. i am looking for a 4" as well....i have 2 6"ers, an 8 3/8 in box, and a 17-6 full lug 8 3/8 in box...love em
