I took my 622 full size out today to plink and had some great fun like usual. When I came home to clean it however I hD an issue. I cleaned it and reassembled like usual. When I was function checking it however I realized the slide stop was not able to engage and hold the slide back. I am not sure if I did something incorrectly. Any thoughts. Also, it is now fully dry firing and I don't remember it doing this before this evening. There might be a trip to the gun smith in my future if you don't have any thoughts. Thanks in advance.

Do you mean you can't engage to slide stop manually? The follower on a empty mag is what pushes it up into place normally. No rimfire gun should be dry fired.

I mean I can not engage the slide stop manually. During reassembly I can engage the slide stop when the spring does not have tension on it. As soon as reassembly is completed and there is tension on the spring, I can no longer manually engage the slide stop.
