625-2 headspace issues?

Hi,
a shooting buddy yesterday experienced what he probably would call a catastrophe. He brought his newly aquired 625-2 (unfired as the seller says) to the range, but could not get it to shoot in the beginning. Cylinder would not close with polymer clips and handloaded ammo from his buddy, ammo protruded. Gave him steel clips, same problem. Gave him other ammo (my own handloads), same problem. Told him to try empty cases in each chamber 6 at a time. Surprise surprise: of 6 cases, 2 protruded. Cylinder would close with cases/ammo in 4 chambers. Later he tried factory ammo (magtech) without any problems first, then again some protruding. My 625-4 had no problems at all with any of the tried ammo or cases.

What's the secret? 2 chambers cut too short for the correct case length? headspace issue? How to deal with that?

My buddy is pretty much devastated. Had a 1 year wait to get the permit and the gun (gun laws are very prohibitive in Germany), if he returns the gun to the seller, he probably will not find another 625 5" within 2-3 years...

Check for any unburnt powder flakes under the ejector star, check often, soak in Ballistol, brush out with a tight fitting 45 bronze brush a few times thoroughly et voila.

he had cleaned it thoroughly before trying to shoot it. No unburnt powder, no residue under the extractor or in the chambers. In the 2 chambers that made problems, later he could fire a few factory rounds, then with the same ammo cartridges protruding again

difficult Q, you got a case gauge? Bring in the case mouth in a bit? Check brass and trim. Some loads I had needed to clean under the star literally after every cylinder full. Good luck

Perhaps the problem is at the other end of the cylinder? Check to make sure the crane / yoke is straight and closes evenly. Then check that the extraction rod is not bent by spinning it. Also check the barrel / cylinder gap for each chamber. If it is not even, it may cause the end shake to bind the cylinder.
