625, 45 Colt model with endurance package

Did Smith and Wesson ever make a 625 in 45 Colt with the endurance package and pre-lock? I have read, but cannot confirm, that the 25-9 fit this description, but haven't been able to determine if there is a 625 variant that does. I have also read that the endurance package was applied only to the 629 model.

Can anyone clarify this for me? I would like to find both a model 25 and 625 that are pre-lock and have the endurance package applied.

The Endurance Package consists of several items.

While it appears the longer cylinder notches do appear on some, as in mine, I doubt any of them have one of the main items, the bolt block. Mine does not have it.

What are you looking to gain?

The reduced metal thickness under the depth of the cylinder notches is it's main limitation in strength.

Both the 625-5 Stocking Dealer Special and the 625-7 Mountain Gun have the oversized stop notches. I believe some other 625 MG's do as well. These should hold up well to conventional loads.

If you want to shoot 325 grain Buffalo Bore Heavy +P or equivalent .45 Colt hand loads out of a S&W, you need to step up to an X frame 460.

No, I don't want to shoot Ruger only loads. I just want some extra margin of safety when shooting 300 gr bullet at about 1,050-1,100 fps. About the limits Linebaugh set. I think his max was a 310 gr at 1,080. I suspect I will likely settle on a 265-275 gr bullet at about the same fps for my woods gun load.

I have a 25-9 (1990) and a 625-5 SDS (1993) with long stop notches. The 25-9 is not drilled and tapped for scope mount. Here's my 625-6 .45 Colt Mountain Gun, CAYxxx (1996), with longer stop notches and other enhancements.

My two 25-9s and my 625-7 MG all have the same notches as well. I keep loads reasonable...a 270 grain slug at 950 fps is nothing to laugh at..
