What would be the value of a 625 with 5" full lenght barrel? It is my understanding that the only made 1,500. I've seen one for sale for just under $850.00. Is this a good price?

Like you said, they only made 1500 or so. I doubt Smith will ever do another run of these, but you never know! I personally like the balance of that 5" full-lugged barrel. Being a SS gun, minor scratches and blemishes are easily buffed out. That gun also came with my favorite trigger, the .312 smooth combat. Everyone that has one seems to agree that this was a well crafted and superbly accurate 45Colt revolver. Mine certainly is!

The five inch is desireable, but It would depend on condition, dose it have the original box and such. I would say for a good mechanical piece without too much wear and tear without box about $600.00.I think $800.00 for ANIB would be about right. True they dont make the five inch anymore but IMHO 1500 units is not rare and you can find the model of 1989 in and such in 45acp in five inch as well.

I always keep an eye pealed for 625's on Gunbroker, and I haven't seen a 625-5 go for less than $800. Make sure that the gun you are considering has the SDS-XXXX serial number which will be lasered under the top strap of the frame. All factory markings are also lasered. I remember seeing an auction site gun that had the S&W logo stamped on the left side of the frame. I suspect it was a cobbled together gun using a 629-3 frame, a modified cylinder, and a 5" 45Colt Classic barrel. I seem to recall that my e-mail to the seller was not answered.

Marsh,
If it's in very good shape I believe I would buy it for that price or close to it. If it's in the original matching box then I would definitely be trying to buy it.
People say 1500 is not that rare but if you divide 1500 by 50 states that only 30 of these guns per state. Not saying they were sold that way but hopefully it puts it into perspective. You may look for a long time before you find another one.
Mine would be one of the last firearms I sell. It's that accurate and a joy to shoot.
Good luck!
