Hey all, stumbled upon a 625 variant today that I've never seen before in person. It's a pre lock 45acp mountain gun tagged at $800 OTD. No box, wood hogue finger groove round butt stocks, tight lockup and no endshake. It does not have the original blue case or stocks/grips.

Now I have quite a few 625s, but not one of these and although I think the price is little steep, I want it. Problem is G-Broker has 0 listed or sold auctions in the last 6 months so I really don't know if the asking price is out of line. What does that hive think? Anyone got one they like/dislike for any reason? Go or no go?

Thanks in advance

In today's market, just about any stainless N-frame in Excellent condition is worth $800

One rare enough that you can not find a comp on it is certainly worth that

Plus wood Hogue Grips are in the $100-$200 arena depending on which wood and if they are checkered or smooth

I am a fan of the Model 25/625 Mountain guns, but both of mine are 45 Long Colt

Get it.... my most favorite and most accurate 45 acp's are revolvers .
That's compared to a Colt Gold Cup , tuned AMT Hardballer and Star model PS all in 45 acp .
The 45 acp in a revolver is a sweet thing and if you reload...twice as sweet !

I already have a.45 ACP Mountain Gun and I would buy another one in a second if I could find another one. $800 is a steal. There was only one run of the .45 ACP Mountain Gun that I'm aware of, from early 2000.

I bought mine brand new in March 2000. Mine is a 625-7, it appears that they used both the -6 and -7 frames for Mountain Guns. My 1996 .45 Colt Mountain Gun, which I also bought brand new in June 1996, is a 625-6.

Not a 1911

I simply like the S&W Mountain Guns.

The 45ACP would make a great addition to my
small shootable collection.

I would try to negotiate toward $700 (missing
all the accouterments). I would prefer New in
the Box, but don't see them much.

The Best to you and your Endeavors.

What's it worth?

Well .... how much is the guy across town asking for his?

What if I bought it for $800 and saw one next week for $700? Hmmm... how much will mine be worth 10 years from now? Less than $800?

But, but ... what if I paid $100 too much for a gun that will last a lifetime and almost certainly appreciate in value? I could have bought 4 large pizzas and 2 six-packs with that $100.

I couldn't get my wallet out fast enough, if I saw one at that price.

The Mountain Gun series is probably the best series of guns Smith ever made and the .45 ACP the best caliber of the series so you now own the Best of the Best....

Besides .45 ACP and +P if you talk to the guys at Buffalo Bore you'll find a lot of shooters use their .45 Super ammo in currently made Smith 625s.

I've had three over the years but because I am mainly a .41 Shooter have sold them off... The last one went last years with box and paperwork for about $1200 after I picked up a 625-7 Performance Center 5"...

$800 is a GREAT deal....this one just sold for a lot more...

Could you send me a PM telling me where it is????? Curious that's all

My 625-6 is not a Mountain Gun, but when it popped up for sale at $900, I offered, & got it for $800, and might have gone higher. It is a 3"er, in great condition, just no box. It is .45 acp. Strangely enough, my last 625-6 was a Mountain Gun, in 45 Colt. I bought it new back in the late '90's I think. Seems like it was a little over $600 back then.

I ended up swapping it for a 1006 a few years back and often miss it. If I saw a Mountain Gun in either caliber for $800, I would buy it, and be extremely happy with that price.

Thanks everyone for the comments and encouragement, bunch of enablers you are! Got a better deal today than I would have gotten yesterday so I couldn't pass it up. Other than a small handling mark under the trademark, its in great shape! Very happy to have this one in my 625 collection. Range report is next, I think I might shoot it better than my 625-2 5" as the balance is ideal. Happy Friday!!!

Yep, you got that at a good price for $800 bucks in my book. I see them asking a lot more for most N frames ('cept maybe the 28, and it's climbing), and it's labeled as a Mtn. Gun at that!
