A week ago I called S&W customer service about returning my 625 JM for them to correct the canted barrel. With the rear adjusted all the way to the left, it still hits to the right. Looking down the top of the barrel, you can definitely see that the sight is leaning to the left as if the barrel was overtightened.

Anyway, how long is the wait for a shipping label? The person told me I would have it emailed to me within a few days. I probably should call back, but I had to wait almost an hour last time and I hate to do it again. It seems to me that they could have emailed it a lot faster than this and maybe the rep dropped the ball somehow.

Anyone have any experience with how long it takes?

Thanks in advance.

howdy,
i do not know about your barrel, but if you would like to move the impact of your bullets to the right, your rear sight should also be moved in that direction. not trying to be a smart butt. sw dan

I just completed that task... From the time I notified S&W until the time I received a response and the return Label,:) was 5 days. Now, how long it will take to return my canted barrel 686 is anyone's guess. Good luck! :):):)

Sounds like to me, that the OP is trying to get the bullet to impact more to the left, thus adjusting the rear sight to the left is correct.

EDIT: To the O.P., did you check you spam file?

Yes I have been watching my spam box as well. I suppose that if I don't receive a response by Friday, I will call back in and see what the hold up is.

Last November I called S&W and asked for a call tag for my 625. I waited 5 days then called again. After the second call I had the call tag email in just a few minutes. Best of luck with your repair...

I called S&W on the 14th. They said 7 to 10 days to receive a call tag by email. As it turns out I already fixed the problem but it's been 9 days now and no sign of it.

I took your route and had the same results. Waited 8 days and called again yesterday. Within 30 minutes of the second call I had my email with the shipping tag. The guy at S&W said they were really busy at the repair center as they are getting a lot of guns returned now.

I sent in my 686-6+ in late 2012 for a canted barrel and loose grips.

I waited 4 days to get the email with the shipping tags.
And it took 3-4 weeks from when I mailed the gun to when it arrived back at the post office for me to pick up.

Issues were fixed to my satisfaction and the turnaround was faster than I expected.

They sent me a tag by snail mail in less than a week. My canted barrel was fixed and returned in less than a month.

Well, I don't really know what to say at the moment. I "had" a revolver that shot nice little cloverleafs at 25 yards, or near cloverleafs with different loads, about 6" to the right of poa due to a canted barrel. Now I have one that patterns at about 6" with 3 different loads, that it shot well before. I checked the bore and my .440 range rod will not pass through due to a constriction right at the frame. I suppose the dumb jerks there crushed it when they corrected the canted barrel. I can't really tell if it is fixed with the patterns it is shooting. Oh yea, my new cylinder. Look at the chamfer job they did. My 5 year old son could have done better with a rock from the driveway.

I suppose I'll have to pass it on at a gun show and tell the buyer that it will need a trip back to Smith and hopefully not come back even more screwed up.

And as I go through my paperwork they sent back I find this

Would it be because they crushed the barrel? I suppose this is them admitting that they screwed up and telling me they won't do anything about it....

Had the same problem with my 629 stealth hunter. Not to discourage you but I had to send it in 3 times before they got it right. They finally replaced the barrel. I had to persist. I almost gave up feeling very upset and discouraged. The last time, I asked to speak to a supervisor. One of the problems besides the canted bbl was the cylinder gaps. After the 2nd attempted repair the gaps were .007 to .009 with taper. With all that said, my gun was returned in one week on the last repair, and IMO is perfect. I'm glad I didn't give up. Good luck...

I dedided to clean it up and go through the internals last night to check for any other problems. I went ahead and cleaned the barrel completely and measured the throats. The throats are all .452". While I had it apart, I took my .440 pin gauge and slid down the barrel to see where exactly the tight spot was. Turned out it was right at the edge of the forcing cone. Looks like they used a dull cutter and there was some burrs at the end. I was able to lap them out with a brass lap and some Beartooth lapping compound. Now the pin gauge slides all the way through and all the chambers are in alignment. Hopefully this cured the problems with accuracy. I'll find out this weekend.

I will never ever buy another S&W without first inspecting it and would urge others to do the same. There is no excuse for a revolver that costs what this one does to have the problems it did and there is no excuse for Smith to do such a poor job on the fix.
