625 cylinder length

I've had a 625 yen for some time and will probably do something about it soon. I've studied some spec's and the 625PC and 325 have shorter cylinders then the 625JM. Can anybody explain the reason behind that?
One of it's functions will be bowling pins and want to load heavy for caliber bullets. I can see the short cylinder being a problem with O.A.L.

I have never heard of anyone having a problem with ammo loaded to SAAMI OAL. I’ve never had trouble with any of my 625-2 or -3s using SAAMI spec’d loads.

I've got a box of coated 250gr. RNFP's. I haven't loaded any yet, but playing with a caliper I'm thinking they might wind up a little long. Never make it in a 1911, but O.A.L. is pretty forgiving in a revolver.
I'm looking around trying to find cylinder length in the different models and not having much luck.

I own a 625PC and I just measured the cylinder length is 1.457 inches. Maybe someone who has a 625JM can measure the cylinder on it for comparison

2 ea 625-3's(3" & 4") and a 625 mtn gun. Get you some AR brass and have fun with those big bullets.

I don't know what 325 you measured the cylinder on but my 325NG & 325TR have the same length cylinders, 1.540" long, which is the same as the 625JM.

The 625PC's cylinder is about 1/8" shorter at 1.425" long.

I believe the logic for the shorter cylinder is for accuracy. They have shorter throats so the bullet gets into the barrel & rifling sooner.

Accordingly, the barrel breach extension is longer on the 625PC (.355" vs .237").

My 625MG, chambered for the 45 ACP measure 1.542 as does my 25-2, 22-4 and several other non PC ACP revolvers.

I can not comment on Nite Guard or other specialty ACP revolvers.

Also, I have loaded 255 grain SWC, 280 grain SWC, and 240 FWC, and all fit in the cylinder. For pins, I liked and would recommend the SAECO 453 or similar over Unique or Bullseye. 850 fps does nicely sweeping the pins.

My Nightguards measure 1.542 also. As do all my other 45acp revolvers, excepting those that are dual 45acpcolts with cylinders I fitted. A 325 with heavy bullets would make a poor bowling pin gun compared to a full underlug 5" gun.

Bluedot37 is correct about why the cylinder is shorter on a PC 625. It's for accuracy.
