They seem to be fairly available out there. I'm looking for a 45ACP range gun. Is this the one? Or, is it "another one"?

Right now other than the "classic series" M25, the 4" 625JM is what is available in all steel 45acp revolvers from S&W. I own the 5" 625 and love it. The JM is supposed to be lighter on the trigger but I have not shot one. Some people do not like the JM grips but any round butt N frame grip will fit. If you want a longer barrel you will have to hit the used market for older 625s or 25s.

What is "another one"? The 625 in any variation will do anything you ask it to do.

My 625JM really ticks me off! I cannot shoot near as well as it can! Mw new classic M-25 in .45 Colt is a real shooter too!

i have the performance center JM model...it is a tack driver and one of my favariot guns to shoot..the miculek grips fit my hand well...also have the hogue grips that came with it...get one of these 45's...you will love it!

The 625JM is a fine shooting revolver. I didn't care for the JM grips so much, but as has been pointed out, they are easily replaced with any N frame round butt grip. Right now I have some classy Spegel boot grips on it. the gold bead front sight is excellent for my aging eyes, the trigger pull is good, the accuracy leaves nothing to be desired, the moonclips are way faster for me than speedloaders, the 4" barrel is just about the perfect length IMHO. What's not to like?

I have a 4" 625-8 JM Special. It has the Miculek Grips, a finger changeable front sight, and a grooved trigger. Cosmetically, it has a large "JM" on the right side. It is a fantastic revolver. It will shoot a variety of loads well under an inch at 25 yards (and under 2" at fifty yards). I mostly shoot target loads (200 gr cast SWC {#68 H&G Clone or H&G #130} ahead of 4.0 grs of Bullseye or equivalent with Federal primers. I am a certified "old fart" with vision problems so I have mine with a Simmons 30mm Red Dot. Put the dot in the right place and the revolver puts the bullet in the right place - simple as that.

My 5" 625-6 is a standard model. It has a pinned front sight (Patridge) a smooth combat trigger and no cosmetic touches.

I have put Pachmayr Decelerators on both revolvers and both have a Simmons 30mm Red Dot. They shoot equally well. I also installed a Jerry Miculek matched spring set - they are adjusted at 9.0 lbs double action and 3.0 lbs single action (my preference for positive ignition).

There are none better. I am shooting as well as I did when I was 35 years old and in IPSC shape. That sure puts a smile on an old man's face.

If I were going to shoot iron sights, I would consider opting for the longer barrel (longer sight radius). However, some of the action shooting sports limit maximum barrel length to 4" in a revolver. If you ever intend to hunt deer with yours in Ohio (my home state), they require a minimum 5" barrel. With my Red Dot sights, sight radius in not in the equation and the 4" holds mighty well but there are no flies on the 5", either. I know, just get one of each (that's what I did (:<)).

I agree with every one my 625 shoots better than I do, and I can load it only half as fast as JM...of course he shoots for 10 hours a day...

I like mine, but I am in the grips stink category so I have a set of Nill's somewhere between Europe and here.

I'm an old fart also. Been called that several times and i'm only 63. I almost bought the JM model. It was a choice between it and the 610. I can reload for both. I picked the 610 because I have a S&W M&P40c. Lots of brass and I love to shoot it. I still want the JM but can't justify it at this time. Maybe next year. Its got to be a good one.
