I have a 625-8 that appears that the strain screw has been shortened, but I can't tell for sure or how much. Functions fine, no light strikes

Does anyone have a strain screw laying around that they would measure for me? I need the overall length and the length from the shoulder to the tip, please.

Thanks.

Attached are photos of three mainspring screws for round butt and square butt applications. I'm not sure which models utilized the "thin head" screws. Lengths will sometimes vary a .002"-.004" or so.

My thanks to all who took the time to respond, it helped me figure out what I have.

It works OK but it appears that my strain screw has been shortened. No problem but nice to know what's there.

Is the mainspring original or has it been swaped out with a Wolff spring with the rib that runs down the center of it?

If it has a Wolff spring, that rib recess make the stock screw too short, and the fix is to install a square butt screw.

When I bought my 986 pro series which comes with a Performance Center mainspring, I was curious about what the Performance Center spring looked like so I removed the side plate to take a peek.

Well, what was inside looked exactly like a Wolff reduced power main spring with the "power rib", and the strain screw... it was the longer square butt screw, so that's how I discovered the "secret".

When I decided to put a Wolf spring in my 625-8, I swapped in a square butt screw and it's been working like a champ, no light strike issues.

Until you get a new strain screw, put a spent primer over the end of the screw before you tighten it to flex the spring. You have just lengthened the screw the thickness of the primer.

The -8 comes with a ribbed mainspring stock. They have minimum length firing pin to pass drop tests.
