627-2 Help Please

I recently picked up a nice 627-2. I believe it was part of a Lew Horton run of .357's built on N frame's. It's old enough to not have the lock but I was wondering if anyone could tell me the approximate number made and year of production.

fastsig40: I am not much of an expert on these, Rex Halfpenny knows about as much as anyone, as far as I know. I can tell you that there are a couple of serial number ranges, several variations, and at least two barrel lengths, 5 and 6 inch. There was one run of 6 inch guns with serial numbers beginning with CDY. Other guns have a serial starting with CCU. One I saw for sale advertised it as being a stocking dealer special, so I would assume that not many were made. I also saw one advertised as a Lew Horton that had a CCU serial number.

Pictures and a serial number and barrel length would perhaps help with some more information.

Actually if you have the box, the 6 digit product code off the end label is the single most useful piece of information reguarding configuration.

The date of manufacture will also be on the label under the heading "Spec Ord" or by itself as 4 digits

The revolver was made on December the 7th of 2000

It was assembled from excess parts inventory

When S&W uses up excess parts like this there are usually 20-100 firearms. It is too small a group to market so they just make one of the larger distributors buy them all.

I think this is the only other CDY serial number I have seen. Most seem to be CCU serial numbers.

Very cool Richard! Is your's a 6" also and are these the fatory grips are have they been changed out?

Those appear to be the factory grips. All that I have seen have shipped with the S&W Hogue made grips.
