627 3"?

I don't remember reading about a 3" M627. There is the 8 shot "Bloodwork" gun with a 2&5/8" barrel.
If there is a 3" someone here will have one.

I knew about the "Bloodwork" gun, but I was just curious about the 3". The 627 is a revolver that I'd love to own in 3".

They made the 3" V-Comp, with a removable comp. I have one of those.

Got any pictures, Mr. G? That sounds like an interesting gun, and may be exactly what I'm looking for.

There is currently a very sweet 627 PC in 2 5/8" in production. Maybe that extra 3/8 of an inch is important, though. :)

It is for me. A 3" seems to balance better. Although, I've never handled a 627 of any kind. I'm basing that statement on other 3" revolvers that I own vs shorter and longer barreled guns.

I recently bought a 627PC with the 2 5/8" barrel, and have wondered why it was not initially or subsequently made in 3". Round numbers just make sense, in a way. Suspect the 2 5/8" is the minimum length that allows the ejector rod to kick Magnum cases clear of the cylinder.
But, while 3" in a K frame or especially a J frame may result in a nice balance, the extra 3/8" inch really means nothing on this gun, as the barrel and shroud are contoured and "see through" and weigh less than other designs. And the N frame has too much weight in it for the balance to change by adding a smidgin more barrel.

I suppose the weight of the N frame making the extra 3/8" negligible for a balance difference makes some sense.

On the whole balance thing, I suspect that is true. I don't have the 627PC but do have the 629PC, same basic gun but in 44 Mag. It sits like a chunk in the hand, fairly substantial and yet I tend to agree with Anton that an additional 3/8" would not make an appreciable difference in the balance or feel of the gun. I do have a 627 5" and that has a different feel to it.....although some of that would be because of different grips.

I've got the 629 PC with the 3" ported barrel. I'd like to try a 629 PC with the 2 5/8" barrel side by side with my gun. I have a feeling I'd still prefer my 3" gun.
