As you can tell from my post count I am new here.
Need some help with identifying a 627 V-Comp. I have looked through my limited collection of S&W catalogs and cannot find a V-Comp shown that is all stainless steel (no dual-tone) and new enough to have a lock on it. 2 things -
1) Can someone identify the year(s) that Smith made them this way off of the limited data given?
2) I ask because I found one at a local gun shop and was wondering what a lightly used example of the above is worth?

Thanks,

I picked mine up last year in Ca with lock for 900. FWIW

Thanks - sounds like a nice price (I would already own this one if it was close to the price you found)- they are asking 1150 for the one I found. Seems a little high - I don't know?

paid $1,100 for 627-5 PC; not V-comp in Florida last year (new)

I'm certainly no expert when it comes to the 627 V-comp, but I seem to recall them being in high demand, and very difficult to find. Based on that, and having paid $800 for a lightly used 627-5 PC, I would expect the V-comp to be in the $950 plus price range.

thanks for the input guys - does anyone have a guess on the year of manufacture?

According to the SCSW #3, production of the 627-5 began in 2002. No other info available.

So did you buy it yet?

No - I haven't bought it yet, I almost always over think things and end up losing out. I need to go get it this weekend.

mine...pre lock

1aafan,
did your gun come with that comp from the factory or is it modified? Nice looking setup by the way.

My bought my pre lock PC 627-3 V-Comp with 3" barrel new in 2002.

another question - did "all" 627 v-comps with the lock come with 2 grips and 2 detachable barrel ends (comp and muzzle protector)?

Thanks - sounds like a nice price (I would already own this one if it was close to the price you found)- they are asking 1150 for the one I found. Seems a little high - I don't know?

Find out if it still has the original plastic box or aluminum case. It could have been shipped in either...preferably the alum. case

I believe the prelocks did come with two sets of grips, a set of houges & a set of smooth wood grips. Mine came with the compensator & the false muzzle but have heard of others only getting the comp. Here is mine serial # CFL XX yep early two digit. If I found one with a lock for that price I would buy it you won't be sorry.
