Hello,

I have a 627 PC (~500 rounds) and it has an unusual malfunction.

The Cylinder lock is stuck in the forward position allowing for the cylinder to be able to be pushed out to the side.

The cylinder lock itself can be pushed back to its "normal" position but it will then move forward again if I don't apply any pressure.

The trigger and the hammer don't function, it feels like they are stuck to something; the only way to pull the hammer back/ trigger is to push the cylinder lock back to the "normal" position and then it will work as intended.

Another notable abnormality is that if I cock the hammer to single-action, I am still able to push out the cylinder which if I'm not mistaken should not be possible.

I typically keep this in a soft CCW Vickors bag and I do not carry it around often.

Last time I went to shoot about 2 months ago it seemed to work perfectly fine, but when I went to go clean it today I noticed it wasn't functioning properly.

For context the only thing I changed on it was the Grip, which should not affect the internal mechanisms at all.

I plan on bringing this to a local gunsmith, but I don't know what to tell them is wrong.

Anyone have any idea what could have gone wrong and what could have caused this? I appreciate any feedback.

I have images/videos of it but I'm not sure how I would share it on this platform.

Thank you in advance.

I had a similar occurrence recently with a vintage Model 28-2. I ended up removing the cylinder, cylinder latch, and right sideplate and sprayed everything with a quality CLP, let it sit for a few minutes, then wiped it down, applied a couple of drops of oil, and reassembled. That fixed my problem. I think it was just sticky old oil or possibly dried Hoppe's No. 9.

Hmmm, ".....Last time I went to shoot about 2 months ago....." - ".....but when I went to go clean it today.....".

I'd guess that your first step, give it its proper (timely) cleaning.....

Sounds like some "lubricant" have dried and gummed up the works, a classic occurence with for example WD40.
As posted further up, try flushing it out with brake cleaner or similar, and then lube it up again with (proper) oil.

The trigger and hammer won't work when the thumb piece is in the forward position because the cylinder release blocks the hammer, effectively locking up the action. This is normal. Pull the thumb piece back and the action can be cycled again, even when the cylinder is swung out.

Ck ejector rod to ensure its screwed in all the way. Apply some "gun scrubber" liberally, then lube...see what results are...if any

I an betting that either the center pin is stuck or the thumb piece and bolt mechanism are gummed up. With the cylinder swung out does the center pin stick out of the center of the ratchet about a 1/4"? If it does can you press it in with something like the flat of a screw drive tip and does it pop back out when you do that. How about the lug tooth under the barrel, is it springing out? Does the thumb piece slide forward and back easily?
