I recently bought this new 627 Performance Center and noticed, after I took it home from the LGS, that the machining on the top near the front sight is uneven. I'm thinking of sending it back for repair but wanted the opinions of my fellow shooters.

I'm very particular, but that wouldn't bother me. It's up to you.

I would never even notice that.

Forgetting about cosmetic issues, more importantly, how does it shoot? That is why you bought it right?

If it shoots good I would not be messing with asking the factory to mill some metal off the right side of the rib to make it look even

It's a good shooter; I've fired over 400 rounds and it hits point of aim at 10 meters with no adjustments. I had to tighten the hammer tension screw because it was about a full turn from fully tight when I first fired it. After I fully tightened the tension screw, I was still getting light strikes on my reloads (about 1 in 10) that had CCI primers. I recently switched to Federals and that seems to have corrected the light strike issue. The action is ok. I wouldn't say that it is dramatically better than my 686-6 and it isn't as smooth as my 586-2. The DA/SA pull is 10 lbs/4 lbs.

I know the uneven ribbing (and some other machine marks and surface imperfections that I didn't mention) is a minor quibble, but I just expected better level of finishing at this price point. The 686-6 that I bought at the same time actually seems to have a cleaner exterior finish.
