My wife just informed me she had ordered a 627 pro series for me for my birthday next week. {good wife}...I asked her to show me what she had ordered and I see it comes with 2 moon clips. After reading a lot of posts on here I'm still confused. It seems these can be fired without moonclips if I'm understanding what I'm reading so what exactly are they for? Thanks in advance for any help on this matter.

I shoot a M&P 327 8 shot revolver for Steel Challenge. The moon clips make for faster reloading. The rounds all eject at the same time with ease. Before I go to the range I will load about 35 moon clips. This is more than I'll need for the match. The moon clips just make it easy to load and unload.

I also have a 327 Sc snub nose that I carry in a IWB holster. I carry one or two moon clips in the pocket for a fast reload if needed.

I shoot a 627 Pro in Steel Challenge matches. It is a great revolver and I commend S&W for devising a way to make moon clips an option on a gun that doesn't need them. I use the moon clips because without them, I would be a time-consuming pain in the butt for the other match members because unloading/reloading for the five runs at each stage would take way too long.
If you use the gun for defense, it makes reloading as fast or faster than reloading a semi-auto.
Your wife deserves a big kiss.

It's for speed reloading.

I shot my 627 in an "all falling-steel" match today. They're a blast.

I guess I'll be first to post a pic
