627 Serial Number Prefix List????

I am thinking they screwed up with the engraving and sight, I don't recall seeing an engraved one before and everything else with the letter is correct and I have seen that prefix a few times before for that dash 3 627PC 5 inch barrel he has.

Yeah I do believe they screwed those couple things up with the letter, I have seen your CNC prefix before and is identical to one you posted. Only difference between yours and the earlier no dash version was the polished cylinder flats and barrel flats.

So you guys think this is a Lew Horton gun from 2000?
It's 100 percent a Lew Horton gun and is 1 of 1454 from the 4 different serial prefix runs they did and yours is from 2000. I have it's serial prefix listed in one of Earl's letters he did for me quite a while back before he passed. R.I.P. Let me know if you would like a copy.

That is a pleasant surprise! It never dawned on me that this was a possibility. All the previous 627's that were LH guns that I had seen were the old frame. Mine remains unfired at the moment. Now do I have something to think about or do I shoot it... Thank you Eric for taking the time to respond. When you have a moment, a copy would be great. Thanks again.

For the PC heavy hunter--170095 to break it down for serial prefix better. The 627PC No dash was 1 of 200 distributed through Lew Horton and serial prefix was all LHV. The 627-3 heavy hunter was 110 made and RBS prefix. 627PC 1997, 627-3 -2000

When this gun was first shown at the 1997 SHOT show in Vegas I was in love.
I have a thing for serial numbers and asked that 357 be shipped to me. I was informed that this was a one time order of 300 revolvers as a Lew Horton Exclusive. So being the stainless version of the Model 27, I had number 27 shipped to me instead. It arrived in June. Shortly after that I got a phone call from Lew Horton telling me that this was the Fastest selling Exclusive in their history and they decided to order an additional 300 revolvers. . . .Did I still want number 357? 357 arrived in September
Number 27 is in the upper left corner of this 8 shot group photo that I tool in 2003. Number 357 is in the upper right and remains unfired to this day.
Now for some that have not been talked about too much
The 6" Heavy Hunter is product code 170095. Initially ordered in 1997. This was a Lew Horton exclusive with a serial number prefix of LHV. The initial order was for 300 revolvers. Examples with RBS and ERV prefixes have been seen. I believe that these were assembled using left over barrels from the initial Lew Horton run
At least the first run of 300 or so 2 5/8" 627 UDRs , product code 170133, the began production in 2002 had MCD as the prefix. since them many more runs have been made and the revolver is currently a cataloged offering so thee are many more prefixes out in the world
The 5" semi pinto 627, product code 170294 used the CMC prefix. This was a Distributor Exclusive offering from AccuSport in 2004. My memory says 130 or 160 of these were ordered
Those are the only ones that I have to contribute to the compilation
Unless we are going to include product code 101024, the first 627, which was a 6 shooter introduced in 1989.
5276 examples of this revolver are known to have been manufactured. Production and sales of this design was stopped after just 278 revolvers were manufactured. Due to the very heavy weight of the 6 shot unfluted 357 Magnum cylinder, the stop notches were getting heavily battered. Especially by folks that shot DA exclusively. This is the event that kicked off the Endurance Package improvements.
So production resumed at the -0 engineering revision with the most visible change being the longer stop notches and corresponding bolt change.
Revolvers have been seen with -1 and -2 engineering revisions and with BEF, BEk, BPK and BRC prifixes.
My -1 example of 101024 which is pictured above is the BRC gun.
Forum member mokuloa should be able to provide some additional 627 serial number prefixes when he notices this thread
As COLT SAA has provided some much needed helpful info, I believe I have the same model as his "upper right" gun with the coveted 357 S/N. The model on the cylinder crane says 627-3, but when I look that up, all I get are the JM versions with the V-comp. Mine does not. It has S/N SHS00xx. It was stated to be a Lew Horton edition, but I am not sure. Can anyone help? Thanks.

Regarding the very detailed list provided, I'd like to offer a clarification... or maybe an inquiry. Under the product code of 170089, it shows a model 627-PC made in 1997, which had serial number of SHSXXXX which was a Lew Horton model (1 through 147)
I have serial number SHS00XX, but it is stamped as a 627-3, not 627 PC. I have already contacted Susan Larusso (former Lew Horton VP and Historian), through email and she confirmed that mine is indeed a Lew Horton version. The company authorized her to continue to maintain the LHD company database. I have initiated the process of her creating a Certificate of Authenticity letter which will document some of my gun's particulars (numers, dates, lot size, etc.) I will update once I receive the letter. As a minimum, at least for my particular gun, there should be an additional line showing the model 627-3 for the SHSXXXX serial numbers. One note I have noted, is the guns listed as a 627 PC have laser engraved PC logo and lettering, whereas my 627-3 seems to have the older version stamped logo and rolled lettering.

Please see the letter attached with the correct model number 627-3.
It’s true that 147 of S&W170089 have the serial number prefix of SHS and the remainder serial number prefixes are random.
LHD’s part number for yours is S&W170089SN. The “SN” signifies a serial number under 101.
I’m sorry, but I do not have an explanation for the 627-PC designation.
