That's a tough question with the small amount of information that you've provided. Can you get some photos and additional details from your nephew...s/n, barrel length, 6-shot or 8-shot, etchings on the barrel and frame? Most or all of the V-Comp revolvers were Performance Center revolvers...beginning around the time of the 627-3 (1998). Perhaps some Forum members with more knowledge will chime in.
 
Thanks. It's an 8 shot and looks just like the current version except for the finish. I should have looked at the 327 dash number. I'll get that when I get I take him to the range this Saturday when he zeros the red dot he is putting on it.
