629-1 sight screw drill and tap

What size is the rear sight screw, the one that holds the sight down, on a 629-1. What size bit and tap would I need to duplicate the existing hole?

The rear sight screw on S&W revolver adjustable sights does NOT screw into a tapped hole in the frame. The screw threads into a tapped boss with square base, and the base fits into a "Tee" slot milled into the upper rear of the frame.

Sorry. I meant the small screw towards the front of the rear sight that holds the sight.

Just curious, what are you trying to accomplish? Is there a broken screw in the hole, or are the threads damaged in your gun? If damaged too badly you can't really do a lot except clean up what is left.

To answer the question, it measures to be a 3-56, or possibly a special that is very close. The tap drill for this is a #46.

I'm thinking of changing the adjustable sight to a Cylinder and Slide fixed sight. It looks like it needs two screws to install the sight.
