629 4 inch

I see a shop local to me has these.Could it be a mountain gun.They have it just listed as a 629 4 inch?And they suck at getting back to you with info on it .And what would it be worth

I'm not the expert but that is not a mountain gun barrel. The MG has a thinner profile barrel.

Probably a "cobbled gun"... you know, one that has had the barrel replaced and put on another frame to make it into (2) Mt. Guns... It happens... Stay away!

The pre-lock 4" 629's are pretty coveted. I would consider $800 a no-brainer for that gun, which appears to be in good shape. $900 OTD would tempt me. I would imagine $1,000+ will be the asking price and someone would pay $1,000 for it even without the original stocks.

I would be on that 29 like a duck on a june bug if it looks as good in person as it does in the photos. get the original grips too

Like others have said, I would do it no doubt if they have the original wood stocks. It would be even better at $900 OTD, which would be a more than reasonable offer. Worst thing they can say is no.

My Mountain Guns came with black rubber Houges, my .41 and my .44.

What I've gotten from S&W was that Mountain Guns were not a catalog item. They couldn't give me shipping dates.

As already posted that looks like a standard 629-1 missing its original wood. The features standard on all Mountain Guns that it does not have are a round butt, a black powder bevel on the front of the cylinder, all black sights and a light barrel with skinny barrel rib. For firing real magnum cartridges I prefer the weight of a standard 629 for less recoil.

Add original stock = additional $150-200. So there goes the deal

I bought 686-1 instead .The 629 had factory wood grips and factory box.No into the square butt guns

Thanks for getting back t us with your decision. If memory serves a round butt 686-1 would have a 2 1/2" or 3" barrel unless it's a 686CS than it could be a 4". Even with a 4" barrel the round butt combined with the smaller frame would make it a lot easier to conceal.
