Hello,
I have a 1990s vintage SRS M629-4 Trail Boss which I live except for the narrow smooth trigger it came with. I have been looking to replace it with NON MIM .400 trigger. I have found some nice used Case Hardened Triggers but I am unsure which will fit my 629-4.
need some advice.
Thanks

All the K,L, and N triggers are dimensionally the same with respect to the portion of the trigger that is hidden under the sideplate. I don't know for sure, but I would guess that a forged trigger could be fit to your revolver.

Personally though, in my experience, I don't like the idea of mixing MIM and forged parts.

RE:729-4 Trigger

Dear Armorer,
All of the parts on my 629-4 are forged. I believe MIM parts were introduced with the 629-5 series and later.

Dear Armorer,
Does it matter if the Trigger came from a 6,4 or three screw N frame weapon?

I'm not aware of a "6 screw" frame. As I mentioned above, with the exception of the differences in the design of the tang, dimensionally, the triggers are the same. There are slight differences in the new MIM triggers due to S&W design changes.

My recommendation would be look for a trigger with the tang you want that is as close to the dash number of your gun as possible. Perhaps I'm wrong, but I can't think of a reason that would necessitate using a very old trigger in a newer (-4) frame.

No it does not. Perhaps you meant 5, 4, or 3 screw N frame.

Because the 6 screw count only applies to I frames. Due to the fact that when the leaf spring mainspring was changed to a coil spring in ~1952, the spring tension screw, i.e., the 6th screw went away.

Since the leaf mainspring and therefore the tension screw never went away on the K and N frames, it's not counted as a 6th screw as part of the screw count for pinpointing the gun's vintage. All K & N frames always had the tension screw and still do.
