Looking at the evolution and design improvements I think the 629-4 is arguably the pinnacle 44 Magnum. Here's a pic of my -4 5". Love the balance of the 5". Also, an unexpected no dash 29 which I was lucky enough to come across.

The 29 looks crispy, the deep blueing is absolutely beautiful!
Yes everyone loves the dash 4's and I'm not arguing with them
My favorites are the No dash up to the dash 3's with the -3's for heavy use, has long as you hang onto the rear sight(specific to -3 and hard to find) I haven't lost one yet…
Really the only reason I'm partial to them is the flash chromed hammer and trigger
I just think they look better

I adopted one of the those as soon as I saw them available.
This -4 dressed in Herrett's is perhaps my most favored 44 revolver.

Big fan of the troopers and yours are absolutely beautiful !

Does the power port, based on your experience, have a significant effect on recoil?

I reload my magnums down to a hot 44 spl range (about 960 FPS) so I can't notice any recoil reduction. I don't recall ever blasting full house magnum loads out of it so I can't compare. I'm past the recoil junky days. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

Just had this one out for a wipe down
6 1/2" Dash four power port
I haven't seen to many of these in the wild
It's a beautifully finished revolver
My photos do not do it justice, heck I'm lucky to get them rotated correctly
