Scored a pair of the 629-5 Performance Center 44 mag revolvers awhile back with the 2 5/8" slab sided barrel. Finally decided to start shooting one of them and it hits waaay low even with the rear sight maxed out, Is this a common problem? Does anyone know the height of the rear blade used in these or a source for a lower front sight which has a dovetail base? Thanx!

Wow! Two days and no answer from anyone here. I don't have an answer either, as I do not have one of those (probably because I have never encountered one for sale). My first suggestion would be to measure your front sight and call the factory for a shorter one. I would not change the rear sight blade until finding a new front sight is not available. They are trickey to replace and you need the right tools. Besides I do not like short rear sight blades.

You might check with Protocal Design on the classifieds here to see if he will make a new front sight.

What distance are you shooting and what ammo are you using?

I assume you're talking about this gun...

Cool gun!
I suspect it was intended for 240 grain magnums.

If it still hits low, I'd phone S&W and order a new front sight, just to have an unaltered original. You can file existing sight down (a little at a time) until it hits where you're aiming, then add some touch-up blue.
