I have a 629-5, Product Code:10124.
5 1/4"barrel without compensator, 6 7/8 with compensator (removable) not slab sided , has full under lug, & 3 T's,
Build date 1/2/98. Box is blue plastic
It is not listed in 2nd edition. Although 2nd edition shows it as being slab sided
What is the value for insurance purposes

In all my years on the forum I've never seen anyone "x-out" a product code. A first!

Unfortunately, knowing that full code, and last number, is key in I.D.'ing the gun. (BTW, it's the s/n that's the identifier members will sometimes x-out).

The JZJ s/n prefix is unique, and was used by Lew Horton on some M629-5 guns they had made. Those were Performance Center variations with 170124 product codes and features different than what you describe.

You should contact Lew Horton and ask for a free Provenience Letter. Then get back to us with the results.

You also need to learn how to post pictures. I have a feeling this is one we have to see.

I have an older copy of the Standard Catalog, but it's currently holding up a short leg on my dining room table. I collect my own info, based mostly on years of studying actual guns and box labels.

If your ship date is similar to the Lew Horton JZJ guns I've seen before, then it shipped in.....

Just kidding about the SCoSW, it's an invaluable tool and our greatest work of S&W scholarship. They don't call it the "Bible" for nothing.

I don't use it much, though, because I see my role, some what, as a "check" to the SCoSW, or a place one can go for a "second opinion" (in a good way, It's not my intent to be contrarian).

which matched the date wrote on box 12-28. So I deleted it from original post

The gun is a 170124, the known Lew Horton special. I saw the box label. The OP had stated an incorrect product code. A letter from LH has been requested and should answer some questions.

Jmoose is correct. My PC product code is 170125 Ser HRC0XXX

Also a Lew Horton gun.. Spec Ord. 8308. Nov 4, 1998 mfg.. 6 1/2'' Barrel.. One of 137 made.

Looking at the picture, l believe Robspeire may have incorrectly measured the barrel..

Most likely measuring from the frame instead of the cylinder.. My barrel is 6 1/2'', not inc BRAKE.

Sorry Kernel, no pictures of my PC657... l am computer challenged. Too 0ld to learn.
