Hello all!

First off, I just wanted to say after lurking here for years, I finally joined. I wanted to say thank you all for your insightful information in the past, and I look forward to contributing myself.

Here are pics of the forcing cone of my 626-6. It has exactly 110 rounds (factory FMJ) through it. While cleaning, I noticed this little "mark" in about the 5 o'clock position on the bottom of the forcing cone. What it appears to be is perhaps a machining mark? It does not seem like a crack and doesn't extend below the surface (at least with the naked eye.)

If anyone can shed some light on this, it would be greatly appreciated. It is barely noticeable, but if I trace my fingernail over it, it will catch (barely, but it will.)

Thanks again and glad to be here!

Tom

Welcome to the forum! Looks like a machining imperfection to me. Have a good gunsmith look at it if you are concerned. It should take him a couple seconds to make a determination, and I doubt he would charge anything.

Looks like a scratch on the surface. You might stone it to smooth off any high spots or burrs. If it's not a crack (can't tell for sure) it will be fine.

Agreed here. Thank you SO much for the replies.
Later on, I'm going to pick up a 686 Plus 2.5 inch from my local dealer, I can't wait.

Thank you again!
Tom

That imperfection on the face the barrel breach looks pretty insignificant from the picture. Uniforming the breach face smooth may not be worth any increase in barrel-cylinder gap gained. If it's not causing a known problem it might be better off left along.
