629-6 Grip Replacement

I would like to place Herrett Jordan Stocks on my 629-6. An e-mail from Herrett indicates I will have to remove the pin from which the grip fastener hangs before doing so.

Should this pin be removed by a gunsmith, or can it be removed by the user?

I don't think it's the pin they are telling you to remove - if the gun came with a Hogue monogrip, you will have to remove the "stirrup" that is hanging from the stock locator pin at the bottom of the grip frame, before you'll be able to install the Herrett's.

Thank you for supplying the term "stirrup." I looked up the exploded parts diagram at Brownells web site, and could not determine the name for that part. I think I have to remove the pin from which the "stirrup" hangs. Is it a simple task, or should it be done by a gunsmith?

You should be able to remove it with your fingers but a pair of pliers works too. No gunsmith needed

I repeat, I doubt that you will have to remove the pin at all. While I don't have any Herrett's, I know of no two-piece gripmaker that does not utilize the stock pin as it was intended - as a grip locator. The stirrup that hangs from that pin, when a Hogue monogrip was installed, will have to be removed from the pin. That stirrup is unique to Hogue.

The stirrup is only guns with a grip held with a vertical screw through the bottom of the grip. The pin is only a light press fit through the frame and is easily removed with a small punch.

I have a couple sets of Herretts, neither required me to remove the pin from the bottom of my frame.
