SO in my search for a model 29 / 629 ( see previous thread ) I have located a 629-6 4 inch barrel but it has the factory rubber grips on it , I hate the look of rubber grips and was wondering if the 629-6 series is a traditional square butt or a round butt ? If its square can I replace the rubber grips with older model wooden ones Thanks in advance

I'm pretty sure the -6 is a round butt, but there are lots of grip makers that have round to square butt conversion grips.

It is a round butt. And as already mentioned, many grip manufacturers offer round to square conversion grips in various hardwoods. In fact, your factory Hogues are round to square conversion grips.

Does your 629-6 have laser etching or stamped markings on the barrel & frame? Mine has laser etching.

The piece is about 100 miles one way from my location and I have yet to see it in person , What I do know is that its NIB and look exactly like the one on the abouve picture So then I gather it is a SQUARE BUTT and I can just remove the rubber grips and replace with a vintage set of older wooden 629 grips?

Yes... or from any of the many after market grip manufactures.

Incorrect. My 629-6, and all other 629-6's including the one you are asking about, are round butt. The factory installed rubber conversion grips with S&W logos made by Hogue, and these grips convert the round butt grip frame to a square butt style grip.

If you buy round-to-square conversion grips, you will have what you need.
