629-6 Question

Hi guys. New here, but have several Smiths. I have a question for some of the more seasoned guys. I picked up this 629-6 Deluxe a couple weeks ago. I have been cleaning it, shooting it, cleaning it etc. My question is, when I reached out to S&W to find the year of it, I am told it was manufactured in 2010. It was my understanding that the Deluxe was not available until 2017, is this correct? This gun has the Deluxe grips, trigger, hammer and is a 3". Could it be a really good fake? It did not come as shiny as this, had the typical S&W stainless finish. I just like them a little shinier so I hand polished it up. Thanks again and sorry about the long post.

I believe that's an exclusive made for Talo Distributors. They were available well before 2017.

Welcome to the forum. That 3"er is a nice gun. Mine is a Talo Dist model and left the factory in 2012. It was also shipped with the same Altamont grips as yours but wears Culina combats now. My guess is that after the run of Talos the factory kept making them but renamed it a 'Deluxe' because it sounds fancier. Enjoy shooting your fire breather.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I got it from a dealer that did not have the original envelope. I did get it at a really fair price, so I was happy about that. Should I assume it is a TALO Edition? S&W said it was manufactured in Sept of 2010.

OP's looks a lot like mine which is a triple alpha SN (CZT) and product code 150715 which the Standard Catalog says is "3 inch Stainless Finish, RR/WO, Textured Wood Round Butt Grips 2010 Lew Horton and TALO."

I drooled over these when they first came out but always ended up spending my $$ on something else first at the gun show.

For years S&W had the wrong barrel length pictured (4"?) on their website but TALO pictured it correctly.
