629 age?

I'm looking to buy a 629 and would like to find out the approximate birth date of the firearm. I know it's pre lock, not recessed or pinned, and shiny with a rubber thing you grab. Oh, and it's got that round circulating thingamabob with 6 holes in it that I saw described in a different post. Where do I look to find out?

Well...you tell us the serial number engraved in the spot that's visible when you open the "round circulating thingamabob" aka the cylinder. Then, we tell you the approximate date and year it was made.

You'll really never know the date it was made, but if you just must know the date it was shipped by S&W, you can pay $75 for a letter.

SN is BKK5XXX. Were there any issues with the gun at that time of manufacture?

Number on the cylinder is BKK 5XXX

I don't have my book here at work, but sounds circa 1990-91. Someone with the S&W book might help by narrowing it down further.

Just looked in my 4th edition SCSW and it shows 1991 as the ship date for a BKK serial number.
